Eastward Ho and The Grove Added as Assets of Community Value by East Suffolk Council

East Suffolk Council has officially added Eastward Ho playing fields and The Grove woods in Felixstowe to its list of Assets of Community Value (ACVs), following a nomination by Felixstowe Town Council.
 
The designation recognises the importance of these green spaces to the local community and provides additional safeguards for their future.

We are pleased to launch our new, quarterly community newsletter, to keep residents informed of progress with the North Felixstowe Garden Neighbourhood project, and to address common FAQs. Each newsletter will address a theme, with our first instalment focusing on the environment.

Timeline

Landowner and Promoter (Christchurch and then Persimmon Home) submit Planning Application for Land at Candlet Road for 560 homes. Eventually refused by East Suffolk Council Local Planning Authority.

March 2015

ESC cabinet decision to continue to provide leisure facilities to district and refurbishment programme begun.

Public Inquiry Process - Land at Candlet Road

Land at Candlet Road – permission granted by Secretary of State at appeal

Initial Issues and Options consultation on the Suffolk Coastal Local Plan carried out by the Local Planning Authority

ESC as a Landowner, responded with a proposal for the Garden Neighbourhood called the ‘Felixstowe Leisure Vision’ this was based on the relocation of the Leisure Centre being the driving force of wider residential growth in this area.

The East Suffolk Leisure Team undertook a consultation on the options for future Leisure provision in Felixstowe

February 2018 to April 2018

This received nearly 1000 responses.

First Draft Local Plan consultation carried out by the Local Planning Authority

July 2018 to September 2018

This included the proposal for the allocation of up to 2000 homes as the North Felixstowe Garden Neighbourhood.

Local plan is adopted which identifies the North Felixstowe site for a Garden Neighbourhood

September 2020

Cabinet Decision to proceed with master planning

East Suffolk Council appoints design team and stakeholder engagement begins
