School pupils asked for their input into plans for North Felixstowe

Members of the North Felixstowe Garden Neighbourhood team have been working with the town’s young people to understand their views on the project, and to offer some advice on career opportunities in the built environment.

Felixstowe Youth Forum - 19 March 2025
The team were delighted to be asked to attend the Felixstowe Youth Forum, a group representing the town’s schools, that meets at the Town Hall.

After a short presentation, representatives from four local schools became town planners to discuss how they would allocate 1440 new homes, a school, leisure centre and associated developments within the allocated site. They were then asked to present their ideas and raise any questions with the ‘planning committee’.

The result was a lively and interesting discussion, followed by some excellent suggestions and engagement with the project.

Many thanks to the Youth Council for inviting us along, and the creative ideas provided.

Felixstowe School - 30 April 2025

The second Youth Engagement event involved more than 30 students from Felixstowe School across Year 10 and Sixth Form. After a site visit to Eastward Ho and land owned by Trinity, which has been earmarked for the new leisure centre, interactive sessions involved students working with consultants engaged on the project. Issues covered included Nature Recovery and Climate Resilience, Heritage and Archaeology, Sustainable Transport, Viability and Land Use, Net Zero and Design.

Pupils were asked to add their comments to an ideas board and suggest what provision could be made for teenagers in the town. Time was also devoted to exploring various routes into a career in the built environment with traffic, hydrology and ecology experts, as well as town planners, a surveyor and an archaeologist contributing to the debate.

A really enjoyable and educational day was had by all, with many thoughts the design team will take back to consider. A massive thank you to all the consultants who to the time to attend the event, and Felixstowe School for hosting us.
